Sarson’s Swimming Success
28 January 2025
Flint House Ambassador, and Senior Warden of City Gate Lodge No. 9890 James Sarson, took on a swimathon this January and has successfully fundraised over £300 in support of our charity.
The swimathon, organised by the Surrey Freemasons, challenged James to swim 1,500 metres. This is a long distance for anyone but as James reflects:
‘Seven years ago I never thought I’d be able to walk again, let alone swim a significant distance! My injuries were so severe’
James says, ‘through continuous hard work, adopting & maintaining a positive mind-set and embracing life and all the opportunities it offers up to us, I’m working through the physical challenges and in the process, helping my colleagues in blue!’ By raising funds for our charity he is helping us ‘continue to help and heal my colleagues, as they did me, with the excellent treatment programs and facilities they have there.’
Thanks to all those who have sponsored James so far, he is hoping to be able to present a cheque to the charity in the next couple of weeks and, as he has done for many years, has a host of other fundraising plans already in the diary for 2025.
The team at Flint House are so grateful for James’ continued support and his dedication to taking on physical challenges that seemed out of his reach when he first came here.

This video from back in 2021 shows James talking about aftermath of a serious road traffic incident the left him with life changing injuries and how Flint House helped him get back on his feet. This is why he continues to strive to give back through raising awareness and fundraising as a long standing Ambassador.
